Why I Document Sanderson

I have spent years traveling and photographing places around the world, always with a camera and notebook close at hand. That habit of paying attention, of noticing small details, quiet streets, and the way people live, shapes how I see Sanderson and West Texas. Here, I try to bring the same care to documenting our town, its people, its landscapes, and its history.

My work on this site brings together several things I care about deeply: local independent journalism, photography, history, and technology. Some days that means digging into old records and newspapers to piece together the stories behind our buildings, families, and events. Other days it is walking the streets with a camera, watching the light move across the canyon walls, or trying to catch the feel of a dusty football game night.

I write both fiction and non fiction, but even the fictional pieces are rooted in real places, real weather, and the kinds of conversations you hear in cafes, gas stations, and along the fence line. The non fiction work leans on research, interviews, and personal observation to create a record of Sanderson and West Texas that future generations can look back on.

Technology is a big part of how I work. I use digital tools, mapping, and modern cameras to organize information, preserve old photos and documents, and experiment with new forms of storytelling. I am always looking for ways to combine traditional reporting with newer tools so that our history and present day life are easier to explore, search, and understand.

I come from a background in public service and still see this project as a kind of service to neighbors, visitors, and anyone curious about this corner of West Texas. I choose to keep my personal identity in the background so the spotlight stays on the stories, images, and records themselves. What matters here is not my name, but the accuracy, care, and respect given to the place I am documenting.
